Our Mission

Grit & Wit, LLC is a Connecticut grown company committed to the development of healthy, engaged communities. We promote mental and physical fitness via uniquely challenging obstacle course events and aim to support local communities.

Our Team

It all started in 2011, when James graduated from law school.

Just weeks earlier he had spent hours a day in the library studying with his only exercise coming from ripping pages out of textbooks so other students were unable to study. Upon graduating he found himself with more free time on his hands and needed a new activity to occupy his time. He turned to obstacle course racing, a sport where people decided fun was climbing over walls, crawling under wire, and carrying heavy objects.

But for the long-distance drives to Massachusetts and Vermont, it was fun. At the time, obstacle course races in
Connecticut were few and far between and he finally began to understand the meaning of the legal term forum non conveniens. James wanted to bring an event to his own backyard and address an important element that he found missing from traditional races ... the mental aspect.

Races favored those who were quick and could lift things up and put them down. But what about a race that could level the playing field? A race that offered a unique, fun way to test individuals physically and mentally? A race that really determined if someone was the whole package? A race that James may actually have a chance of winning...if only for the fact that he designed all the mental challenges!

Thus, Grit 'N Wit was born.

Our Course

At Grit 'N Wit participants must completed 20+ mental and physical obstacles over 3 miles. To give you a sense of what to expect, the last event had participants memorize a pattern, then scale a hill and put the pieces of the puzzle together. After climbing over a series of inclined monkey bars and 5' walls, participants came to Ultimate Field Sobriety Test. There they had to get two golf balls through a maze while standing on an inclined balance beam. The mental obstacles are designed to be fun and challenging - think Survivor, the Amazing Race or MTV's The Challenge - but without the bugs, plane ticket or a stint on the Real World.

Basically if you think you're the total package then prove it October 24, 2015. If you don't think you're the total package then prove something to yourself October 24, 2015. In other words, Grit 'N Wit is as fun as can be and as competitive as you want it to be.

Our Cause

At Grit 'N Wit, we are dedicated to engaging and supporting host communities. We partner with a variety of local businesses and community organizations to celebrate local assets. We are proud to have realized Grit 'N Wit in the city in which the concept was born! As we continue to grow, we look forward to bringing Grit ‘N Wit to a location near you.

This year we will be supporting college students by offering scholarship awards and prizes. We want to ensure that the next generation is grittier and wittier than this one.
